We all knew the day would come when more people would want to access a webpage through a mobile device than through a laptop or desktop computer. Studies in September 2014 have shown that mobile commerce traffic has finally beaten out desktop traffic in the last half of the fiscal year.
The trend was already in the makings in June of this year, as Android users were surveyed concerning whether or not they had used a mobile device to access the webpage of one or more of the ten biggest UK retailers. When compared to the results from similar surveys in previous years, the numbers were surprising—not only are mobile views rising, but desktop/laptop views are decreasing.
John Lewis has seen one of the most significant improvements, with a 114% increase over the last year, while desktop views have decreased by 20%.
It is important to note that these studies only surveyed Android users. Including iOS users would probably contribute another considerable hike to the numbers. Coming into the holiday season, we should mention that last year’s holiday traffic was more than 33% iOS, making Apple product users a huge portion of the mobile traffic population.
